Being Canadian, it always struck me how they could be so surprised by the cold. Now living in Australia for the past 12 years, I am beginning to "get it. The Summer Olympic Games of the XXX Olympiad take place in London from July 27th-August 12th. Who would have thought I would be going there with a dual role as Athlete Liaison and Mental Coach for Archery Australia as well as SuperFan and star supporter to my life partner in her 5th Olympic bid? Weathering the emotions of impending qualification has been an art form. For those who have never experienced anything like it, imagine something you have wanted since you were a wee little one all culminating in 36 minutes of action. Olympic qualification has a way of widdling it all down to key moments and defines who you are under extreme pressure. Being able to command performance is something you train and yet are never completely prepared for. Having been an aspiring Olympian, I have deep respect for any athlete willing to stand and be counted! It is so much easier to bow out and go to the movies with your friends, but a brave few stand up to the line and shoot arrows at a target 70m away or dip their toes deep in the sand in order to bury a ball in their opponents sandpit. Both of these activities can appear crazy to many yet it stirs something in all of us that is undeniable. Is it the possibility that we too can show up for our lives and rise to the potential of who we've become? Could there be a common thread that links us all to our own inner excellence? No matter whether we realize every single endeavor we set out to conquer, it is the journey that defines us. The Hawaiian tradition illustrates this so beautifully in their twin-hulled sailing canoes that would set off on the Pacific Ocean for epic sea travel from island to island. They recognized the transformative nature of the voyage itself rather than sole focus on arriving at their destination. To be the only Australian female to attend 5 Olympic Games, it has been a voyage. Will she reach the Atlantic shores of London and carry the Australian flag honoring her beloved country? How will the final chapter unfold? Though it kills the ego to not to have specific details on how this journey will close, the unknown itself breathes power into this epic journey. To bare witness while also commanding a seat in the canoe has transformed me and enabled me to now assist others in their passage. Is it not all about sharing our experiences so that others may be richer for the contribution? Enjoy this month's game as you can imagine it will have the Olympic flavor tossed throughout its intention. To reality catching up with intentionality, |
