February Newsletter

February 2013

Hi WEBSITE

Who now feels like they are well and truly into the year?  Are you operating on all cylinders? Just last week, I began to feel like I was in the groove again and as much as I love vacationing, I also relish in the feeling of my motor pumping along. On a 30-day cleanse and enjoying the pure taste of food all over again...

For those of you have been following the floods in Queensland, we were lucky to only watch the rising waters from our 9th floor and feel the whipping tornado winds on our windows.  I tried to capture in a photo our neighbors pontoons under water and the amazing footage of ocean foam accumulated at nearby Sunshine Coast.  Who says Australians can't have their version of snow :)  All is calm now in Brisbane though our prayers are with those recovering in the aftermath of floods in Bundaberg.

My blog for this month came to me when a jeweler-friend I was traveling with noticed the stone in my wedding ring was loose and said "give it to me & I'll get it to my shop & fix that up for you in a couple of days".  As I clung to the ring and refused to give it up, I experienced the weight of attachment and all that it brings.

I began to delve into how attachment to things is one area where it gets me but attachment within relationships can be even more destructive.  Check out the blog this month on how attachment flies in the face of a consciously loving relationship & the game I've created to help move ourselves to being more than our thinking mind. Be sure to print it out this month's game and experience the value of play.

On that note, my partner and I have been discussing why people often seem reluctant to actually engage in the physical manifestation of an insight...whether it be an exercise to be done, a game to be played, or even affirmation words or pictures to cut out.  When we are delivering workshops & follow up on the activities suggested, we often hear responses like "we get it, we get it" as a justification for why they haven't filled in the exercise.  As athletes, we are so attuned to "doing the task and running it through our bodies", that I'm baffled how people are missing out on this value.  Did you know that there is only 25% retention on things we uptake cognitively?  The other 75% is what the cells of the body take in.  Games are only one means to access more of this 75% capacity that we all have within us.  But like the new lawnmower that remains in the garage, if you don't take it out for a spin on the lawn, no grass gets cut.  Merely reading through something means you are missing out on three quarters of the value you could be getting.  Just saying...

Becoming Conscious

The inspiration for this game stems directly from the work of Eckart Tolle and his writing of "The New Earth" and his subsequent suggested exercises...

Unshackling the Chains of Attachment

Posted Thursday, January 31, 2013. By Sarah Maxwell

I wanted to share a small analogy with you that sprung from an unlikely place: getting my wedding ring fixed and cleaned last week! I knew the stone on my ring needed tightening as I could hear it flicking around with even the faintest of touch yet I was reluctant to take it off. read more
