Christmas may not be about giving?

December 7th, 2011

Hi WEBSITE

Have the shopping malls in your neck of the woods made the transition into Christmas with garland laden tree centerpieces and holiday cheer streaming through the hallways, suggesting to shopper's not to forget that gifts equal love?? This time of year begs certain questions, one being 'what gift can I give my loved ones that will be loved by them?' I only have to recall my own love of Christmas morning, having enjoyed it with the spirit of a child for 30 years thanks to having much younger brothers to anticipate along with. There is another memory accompanying it however...Mom crying after the turkey and cranberry sauce has been gulped down by the family in fear that us kids might not have truly loved our gifts! Always wanting it to be "perfect", she stumbled in the overwhelm of her own expectations for the holiday.

Think about your intimate relationship and the "gifts" you have been known to "give" Christmas morning: were any of those lovely gifts actually trades? Strings-attached boxes masquerading as gifts are abundant beneath most Christmas trees in the Western world! Here is what I am getting at: our true intention for giving can be cloaked in mysterious and hidden expectation...without even our being aware of it! The plain truth is that many of us are not giving gifts freely but rather are inwardly needing the receiver to love, use, or admire our packaged beauty! Here's one litmus test example: imagine you've bought your partner pink diamond earrings for the holidays. Upon receiving the perfectly wrapped box, your partner decides to give it to her sponsored sister in Nepal as a show of philanthropy! You feel your heart rate escalate as you compute the thousands of dollars that will be making their way to the mountains of Nepal! No matter who you are, I challenge you to not sweat a little if this happened to your gift! A gift given freely is one of the rarest commodities on earth.

This month's activity may challenge you but if you play full out, you will reap the rewards of living in integrity within your relationships this festive season.

'Tis the Season to be Truthful

This month's activity may challenge you this Christmas but reaping the benefits of authentic relationships, with not only your intimate partner but your family and friends too, is well worth a couple pages of notes. Oh by the way, it'll also help you organize your Christmas list!
